Had a great hike last night in Green Mountain Park. Took the long route and ended up in the middle of a herd of mule deer doing their nightly regathering after grazing all afternoon. I first came across three does who didn't run, just stood there and watched me move along the trail. Then I went back into a wide canyon and began climbing up to the ridgeline. Three or four does and a young buck watched me, intently, but didn't run until I came within a hundred or so feet. Along the ridgeline there were more, probably ten or twelve. I crossed the "summit" and began down the other side, the light fading when I came across the bulk of the herd. I was walking down another ridge, parallel to the previous one when I saw big-daddy and a bunch of does. They were coming from my left, two or thee at a time. I stopped and watched the ones that had gone downhill already not realizing that more were coming up behind me. I looked both left and right and there were deer watching me from about fifty yards. Pretty domesticized if they're that close. Got my butt off the mountain as the light was just about gone. Pics to come soon (had a disposable rather than my digital on this trip, needed to finish off the roll).
